Hi Reader,
I've read a couple newsletters recently from other educators, designers, creators, etc. and the recurring theme is readily apparent: we're all very tired, for a large variety of reasons.
I saw this post on Instagram last night from @yourweeklybreakdown (podcast), reading out this tweet on X from Katherine, who understandably went viral because of her post.
I saved the post for later, because as real/scary as it was to listen to, it nailed how our day-to-day life has become.
But when ya hear it put that way, it's so ridiculously absurd that it's kinda funny! And super relatable.
So I thought I'd share it, because it may make you giggle to yourself and frankly we could all use a bit of healing humor these days! 😃
Here's the full post content 👇🏼 (side-note: since when does X allow longer post captions like this? #leftbehind LOL)
Search is full of ads and wrong answers. Every other email is an ad. Prime Video charges you and shows ads. Paramount? Ads. Peacock? YouTube? Hulu? Ads followed by more ads. Netflix full of ads. Meta and X, every other thing is an ad. Pinterest is nothing but ads.
AI is in everything. AI finishes sentences incorrectly and won’t stop. AI reads your email and search history to target you with more ads.
Every time you open an app or visit a site there’s an update making it worse. In a hurry? First, click here to agree to terms you don’t have time to read and must accept. You need an account to do that. Change your temporary password. Enter your 2FA code. Check your email and enter that code. Now use a passkey. Your password is too simple to remember. Change it. No, not like that. Now log on. Enter your 2FA code. Check your email for a code… Welcome back! We’ve updated our terms of service and privacy policy (you have none).
Subscribe to the site. Subscribe to Netflix. Subscribe to toilet paper. Subscribe to these groceries. Pay a membership fee for the right to subscribe then tip your driver who delivers the subscriptions your membership lets you subscribe to.
Time to work? We’ve got to update your laptop and will slow down everything you do until you agree to update. But first, click here to agree. Update installed — your laptop’s broken now. It doesn’t matter, since your boss just replaced you with AI. Go to your phone to complain on social media. Wait, your phone needs an update so we can add more AI. Click here. Oh sorry, your phone can’t handle this update. Now it’s useless.
Go get the newest phone. Here’s a text from a friend, an email, a voice mail they left three days ago but you didn’t see until now because of sync problems with the cloud. It’s their GoFundMe. Their MLM. Their Patreon. Never mind, you didn’t respond to their text within 9 minutes and now you’re no longer friends. They blocked you. Make new friends.
Download this app to find people in your area. In your neighborhood. On your street. Two doors down from you. Do you know this person yet, we think you’d get along. You need an account to use this app. That username is taken. Enter a password. Not that one, you used it on another site. You need to be connected to WiFi to download the app. Allow the app to connect to other devices on your network. Allow the app to access your contacts, know your precise location, store your credit card details.
Oops, sorry, we got hacked now all that info is available on the web. There’s a class action suit. You can join. It’ll take a decade to get your $3.73 share of the ten billion settlement. We’ll send it via PayPal or deposit it to your bank, just tell us those details. Oh no, another hack. That info is circulating now, too.
Here’s a spam call, a spam email, a spam text. Why are you angry? Why are you talking about getting rid of your phone? Why don’t you like AI, it lets us make all of this easier? Do you know how ridiculous that sounds? This is progress. You’ll be left behind. Do you want to be left behind? Do you???
Anyway — if that didn't make you laugh and cry at the same time, I don't know what to tell you. 😂 It's so painfully accurate it hurts a little. But hey, at least we're all suffering together, right?
Speaking of things that are (mercifully) free and not trying to sell you anything 🤣 — I've got a live YouTube tutorial coming up on Monday that I think you'll actually find useful. 👇🏼
📣 FYI: Live tutorials like this may become an ongoing series — so if you have topic requests for future episodes, drop them in the YT comments or hit reply & tell me!
🔴 LIVE on YouTube → Monday June 1st @ 11am How to Use the Squarespace Classic Editor for Blog Posts (+ Q&A)
The Squarespace Classic Editor trips people up! It has some quirks that nobody explains and that aren’t intuitively understood, but once you know how it works, it gets a lot simpler to use! In this live, I’ll explain how the Classic Editor actually works inside Squarespace blog posts: how to add and organize content blocks, what the hell the spacer block is for, how formatting behaves (and when it doesn't), how it responds on mobile, and whatever else you want to walk through together. Come LIVE and drop your questions in the chat too! — This is also part Q&A, so if you've been staring at something confused for longer than is comfortable to admit, now's your chance to ask me about it. WHAT I’LL COVER: ✓ How the Classic Editor is structured and why it works the way it does ✓ Adding, moving, and managing content blocks ✓ Text formatting and tips to get more comfortable with it ✓ Images, spacers, and block settings ✓ Live Q&A — bring your questions! 🆓 Free Event 🗓️ Monday, June 1st @ 11am Eastern 🔔 Subscribe to my channel to be notified of future videos
This one is kind of a soap box for me, but it was definitely worth a discussion after one of my members shared a blog post from another designer who experimented with adding prices to his website, saw inquiries lower, and then promptly took them back down.
Today's post discusses why I think his fears contributed to that "failed experiment", what I think can be done to fix those things, and why I STILL believe pricing transparency is necessary in 2026. 😁
Not just bc the brand uses my dog's name. 😂 Lunatask is a very simplistic, cheap, ADHD-friendly task management app that also includes journaling, publishable notes, habits, time-blocking, and even personal relationship management!
Save on your one-time payment with lifetime access to Kitchen* with code SPRING20.
Sale ends on May 31, 2026!
So to recap: the internet is a lot right now (understatement of the decade), a free live tutorial is happening Monday if you want to come hang out with me, and yes — I still think you should list your prices. Come 'fight' me about it in the comments. 😂 (J/K, obviously.) See ya next time!
